The Divettes, the UK’s No. 1 Harmony Group, are proud to have supported the Haringey Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Project for over 10 years, helping to continue the legacy of the late May Richards MBE and her tireless work within the community.
Through their music, performances and ongoing commitment, GeeGee, MeeshAnn and CarlyMac have remained proud supporters of the project, which raises funds to support paediatric red cell patients at North Middlesex University Hospital.
The project continues the vision of May Richards MBE, who established an annual Gospel Festival in Tottenham to raise funds and awareness for those affected by sickle cell and thalassaemia. May was awarded an MBE in recognition of her continuous efforts to support these vital projects and her local community.
Following May’s sad passing in 2020, aged 89, her niece McKenzie, Manager of The Divettes, joined the project’s core organising team to help carry forward her aunt’s vision and ensure her remarkable work continued.
As the world navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on live events, McKenzie took the initiative to plan the project’s first-ever livestream event, providing a new way to bring people together, raise awareness and continue supporting this important cause. The Divettes were proud to participate in this historic event, standing alongside the project during a significant period of transition and helping to keep May’s vision alive.
The project continues to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people receiving red cell treatment. Its fundraising supports initiatives at North Middlesex University Hospital, including the paediatric patients’ Christmas party and graduation ceremonies that celebrate young people as they transition from paediatric to adult services.
For GeeGee, the cause holds a particularly special place in her heart. As May Richards’ niece, she shares a personal connection to the legacy her aunt worked so tirelessly to establish. Together with MeeshAnn and CarlyMac, she remains committed to supporting the project and honouring May’s contribution to the community.
For The Divettes, this commitment is about more than music; it is about family, community and keeping a meaningful legacy alive.
As the Haringey Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Project continues its vital work, The Divettes remain proud to stand alongside the team, supporting its mission and helping to ensure that May Richards MBE’s vision continues to inspire future generations.
